5 Conversations Every Couple Should Have
Strong couples don't avoid hard topics — they learn how to have them. Here are five conversations worth scheduling.
Most couples don't fight about what they're actually fighting about. Underneath the dishes, the in-laws, and the schedule is usually a deeper conversation that has never been had out loud.
1. "What does love look like to you?"
We each have a love language. If yours is words and theirs is acts of service, you can both be loving — and both feel unseen.
2. "What's our money story?"
Money is rarely just money. It's safety, freedom, fairness, and history. Talk about how you each grew up with it.
3. "What do you need when you're overwhelmed?"
Space? Reassurance? A hug? A plan? Don't make your partner guess.
4. "What are we building?"
Shared vision is glue. Without it, daily life becomes the only thing connecting you.
5. "How do we repair?"
Rupture is normal. Repair is what protects the relationship. Decide together what reaching back looks like after a hard moment.
If any of these feel impossible to start — that's exactly what couples therapy is for.
